i know we all love the fics and headcanons where bucky is gentle with steve and takes special care not to be too rough or hurt him
but come on
bucky doesn’t hold back from pulling him into his side or into a hug that leaves steve surprised at its intensity
bucky is the only person in the world who saw how strong steve was before the serum and the only one who didn’t treat him like he was frail and weak
I’ve always loved the rag doll shake in the first gif, but have you guys noticed Bucky hook his chin over Steve’s shoulder and just … settle on in to the hug?
I never noticed and now I’m obsessed. It even looks like he’s throwing Steve backwards a bit with the force of the hug. I love how even though they’ve been friends forever Steve is always shocked by how forceful Bucky is with affection. Excuse me, I’m gonna stare at this gif forever now.
OMG I’ve never noticed. That’s adorable. Bucky just plops himself against Steve, almost like he’s sagging against him for a second. Now I just keep seeing that back pat as Steve’s way of going, “It’s alright, you big lug.” Cuz I’m not seeing anything that could note Bucky doing the same thing with either of his hands. Seems more like he’s full-on clinging and Steve’s just like Bucky omg.
Bucky is 100% clinging in that hug. Bucky was shipping out, he knew what his chances of survival were. As far as he knew, this was going to be the last moment he ever saw his best friend. Steve’s being all stoic ‘you’ll be fine you big lug, go dancing with the ladies, of course you’re coming back’ either because of denial or just because he has to believe it, or needs Bucky to believe it, but Bucky…Bucky is leaving home, leaving Steve, know that if he dies chances are his body will never be recovered back to the States and that Steve will never know where his last resting place is, and he’ll have been the last in a string of people to ‘abandon’ Steve.
So, what I want to talk
about in regard to the moment above is why can’t Steve lift it? Why
can he only move it slightly? This is my theory;
We all know Steve Rogers
is the epitome of a good human, the best. No flaws. All strengths.
But if you like I love to look between the lines, behind the smiles
and masks, you’ll also know him as an incredible sad, broken human
being who has lost everything and still is expected to soldier on.
Now, a few days ago I read
anamazing meta on Steve Rogers and his suicidal tendencies; crashing
the plane, jumping about twenty stores out of building and down in
another with a shield as his only protection, jumping out of a plane
without parachute (a thing that is insinuated to be reoccurring ‘Did he just jump without a parachute?’ ‘Hehe, yeah’),
dropping his shield and not fighting back when he fought with Bucky,
there is nothing that makes him happy (’What makes you happy?’ ’I
don’t know’). There are countless of other incidents but right now I
can’t remember them. The important thing to take from this is that
Steve Rogers, the grand Captain America, is depressed, suicidal and
so guilt ridden over what happened to Bucky (and knowing Steve, he
probably blames him self for hurting Peggy over and over, when she
rediscovers he’s alive ’It’s been so long, so long’ too).
But he is still Steve
Rogers, he is still an amazing person with principles, he never
bends. His morale isn’t compromised like Natasha’s is. He doesn’t
fight for his country, he fights for its people and for freedom. For
what’s right. If anyone is worthy of wielding Thor’s mighty hammer,
it is Steve; the sickly, little kid from Brooklyn who were to dumb
not to run away from a fight.
So why can’t he lift, why
can he only move it slightly? Because Steve Rogers is depressed,
because he blames him self for every bad thing in this world, that he
maybe could have prevented if he had powers like Superman, because
Steve Rogers doesn’t believe he is worthy and certainly not of
lifting the hammer of a god. And I believe that not only do you have
to be worthy, you have to deem your self worthy of lifting Mjolnir.
And Steve doesn’t see what we see, he doesn’t see his amazing gifts;
he sees all his mistakes, he sees Bucky falling and the destruction
of both New York and DC hears Peggy crying and there’s no way those
actions and fall outs can make a man worthy of lifting Mjolnir.
Steve Rogers uses voice to text to send texts and formats them like a telegram
HEY BUCK STOP SAM AND I ARE OUT SHOPPING STOP WANT US TO PICK UP SOME TAKEOUT STOP
Steve rogers fully understands that this is not the correct way to text. He just likes the absolute outrage it causes every time someone receives a text from him and wants to see how many times he can make the same people explain texting to him until they realize. Sam is currently at 14 times, beating out tony who’s at nine. Twice now shuri has facetimed him after reading bucky’s texts. He’s also managed to convince thor that this is the Earth Way to text and it’s great

tiny comic about bucky’s insecurities. as he recovers, bucky’s upset he can’t revert to exactly who he was before hydra. sometimes, seeing how he used to be with steve in the 40s unnerves him. he feels like he can’t be steve’s best friend again. steve realizes this and, fortunately, knows how to comfort him. he understands the feeling. completely inspired by @ladypeg!
