At first he’s taken aback because he doesn’t think kids would instantly go up to him.
‘do you know where your parents are?’
‘no.’
so he tells her that she can hang out with him until they find them, knowing full well that he might not find them
she stops crying at his words
he puts her on his shoulders so she has a better view
after what seems like hours she starts audibly yawning and bucky takes her off his shoulders but doesn’t set her down as she falls asleep in bucky’s arms
Bucky doesn’t actually know what her parents look like so he pauses the search until she’s awake again
they find her mom
and they both thank him endlessly for his help
bucky walks away with this feeling that he hasn’t felt in a long time
that feeling you get when you’ve helped someone with no other agenda other than to just help someone
and he thinks for the first time since WW2 that he’s not a bad guy
