natalie portman radiates such a terrifying energy i can’t describe it….. it’s not exactly evil but it’s not warm either…. i feel like she could unhinge her jaw and drag me into the ocean like a kraken but she wouldn’t bc it’s undignified
Wanna know why?
“Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman told the crowd at Saturday’s Women’s March in downtown Los Angeles that she experienced what she calls “sexual terrorism” as a 13-year-old after the release of the film The Professional.
Portman described her pride and excitement in releasing the film, only to encounter sexually explicit messages both directed toward her and made about her.
”I excitedly opened my first fan mail to read a rape fantasy that a man had written me,” she recalled. “A countdown was started on my local radio show to my 18th birthday, euphemistically the date that I would be legal to sleep with. Movie reviewers talked about my budding breasts in reviews.”
The experience, she said, changed the way she expressed herself publicly, in order to limit the ways she could be objectified by others.
”I understood very quickly, even as a 13-year-old, that if I were to express myself sexually, I would feel unsafe,” she said. “And that men would feel entitled to discuss and objectify my body to my great discomfort. So I quickly adjusted my behavior. I rejected any role that even had a kissing scene and talked about that choice deliberately in interviews. I emphasized how bookish I was and how serious I was. And I cultivated an elegant way of dressing. I built a reputation for basically being prudish, conservative, nerdy, serious, in an attempt to feel that my body was safe and that my voice would be listened to.”
in the soul stone bucky is sitting alone minding his own business when a little girl no more than 4 comes up to him and asks for help.
At first he’s taken aback because he doesn’t think kids would instantly go up to him.
‘do you know where your parents are?’
‘no.’
so he tells her that she can hang out with him until they find them, knowing full well that he might not find them
she stops crying at his words
he puts her on his shoulders so she has a better view
after what seems like hours she starts audibly yawning and bucky takes her off his shoulders but doesn’t set her down as she falls asleep in bucky’s arms
Bucky doesn’t actually know what her parents look like so he pauses the search until she’s awake again
they find her mom
and they both thank him endlessly for his help
bucky walks away with this feeling that he hasn’t felt in a long time
that feeling you get when you’ve helped someone with no other agenda other than to just help someone
and he thinks for the first time since WW2 that he’s not a bad guy
yo this was so pure but honestly, what the fuck dude
I don’t know. Marvel has a problem in that they often rush their deaths. Or that they are used as a plot device. Many villains are slaughtered without much fanfare and then you have the “heroic” sacrifices that are mainly there to give some pretend gravitas to an endfight…
Maybe Peggy Carter. It was devastating and cruel, how we saw the once so strong-minded Peggy succumb to old age and everything that comes with it. But it was also very real and it doesn’t happen that often (especially not in superhero movies) that we see that. Someone simply dying of old age. It wasn’t heroic, it wasn’t beautiful, it wasn’t some epic sacrifice, not a larger than life moment. It just was. But they did show it. Peggy didn’t disappear from the MCU once she wasn’t valuable as a hero any longer, they treated her with respect. Even if it was to show how Steve is out of time. They still treated Peggy with dignity and gave her story time and an end.
the scene in the first avenger when peggy carter asks a soldier to step forward and then she fucking decks him in the face and straight up knocks him to the ground without once showing an emotion changed me as a person
