it’s not just phil sharing his creator of the year award with dan and honoring him, refusing to accept recognition without him by his side. it’s not just the 2016 that they’ve shared. it’s the whole of the last seven years. it’s the fact that phil, whose dedication to this craft was the foundation of their partnership and who by all means DESERVES creator of the year for his creative output, for his innovation and his kindness and his consistency over ten whole years, it’s the fact that despite all of this, phil lester could never exclude dan. the same phil who got an email from the bbc for a radio show and responded by asking if he could bring dan along. the same phil who unabashedly shares the space on his channel with this person who is his whole world. 

and then, as if that weren’t enough, it’s dan saying that if they were to be apart the universe would tear in half. in front of a fucking room full of people and a worldwide audience. it’s dan grinning fondly and refusing to exit the stage without reminding everyone who actually won, and applauding him so that everyone can see. 

dan and phil love each other.

what they share is so rare and beautiful and we are all so fortunate to be witness to whatever pieces of it they are willing to share with us.
