The writers don’t have the power to make these decisions. Major plot ideas, like an ongoing relationship involving a lead, need to be presented to the network for approval. M/F pairings are fairly easy to get approval for but other pairings are met with resistance. We don’t know why Destiel hasn’t happened. Maybe it is that the writers/producers don’t like the idea, maybe they do but the network said no; the powers that be aren’t allowed to publicize these things while a show is still on the air. Sookie from Gilmore Girls was originally written as a lesbian but the network execs wouldn’t allow it, fans didn’t learn this until 15 years after the series first aired (x)
