Eren became trapped in his childhood 

Mikasa became a killing machine

Armin developed severe depression

Jean started hallucinating about Marco

Hanji needed to know everything about the creatures that ruined her life

Annie reciprocated the only love she knew

Levi sunk into himself

And Historia lived a false life in fear

These characters were really well written 
They are thrown into situations unimaginable, and somehow we can relate. Their trauma feels real because we know that pain. And the way it was portrayed was astounding. 

Loss is not something to be fucked with.
